Lisinopril

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
after a recent heart attack
kidney problems caused by diabetes
heart failure (with other medicines)

Common side effects

headaches
feeling or being sick
diarrhoea
dizziness, especially on standing up
a dry cough that does not go away

Cautions

can affect the kidneys — regular blood tests
can cause angioedema (face, lip or throat swelling)
may not suit kidney or liver problems
do not drive if dizzy or drowsy

Interactions

other blood pressure and heart medicines
diuretics (water tablets)
ibuprofen and similar painkillers
lithium
heparin (anticoagulant)
alcohol (increases risk of low blood pressure)

Pregnancy: not usually used — can harm the baby's development
