Lidocaine Hydrochloride

Lidocaine skin cream is a local anaesthetic that numbs the skin before minor procedures.

Clinical information

Common uses

numbing skin before blood tests or drips
numbing skin before minor surgical or cosmetic procedures

Common side effects

itching or tingling where applied
paler skin or redness
mild swelling

Cautions

use only on undamaged skin — not cuts, rashes or eczema
keep away from eyes, mouth and genitals unless advised
may not suit porphyria, methaemoglobinaemia or G6PD deficiency

Interactions

usually does not affect other medicines at cream doses

Pregnancy: considered safe in pregnancy
