Levocetirizine

Antihistamine tablet for long-term hives.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • skin symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)

Common side effects

  • sleepiness
  • tiredness
  • dry mouth
  • sore throat or cold-like symptoms

Cautions

  • avoid driving or hazardous work until effects known
  • not with severe kidney failure or dialysis
  • stop if urinary retention occurs

Interactions

  • alcohol and CNS depressants (avoid — more drowsiness)

Pregnancy: limited human data — no fetal harm in animal studies
