Lenalidomide

Lenalidomide (Revlimid) is a thalidomide-related capsule for multiple myeloma and some blood cancers.

Clinical information

Common uses

multiple myeloma
anaemia in del(5q) myelodysplastic syndromes
relapsed mantle cell lymphoma
follicular or marginal zone lymphoma (with rituximab)

Common side effects

diarrhoea
tiredness
anaemia
constipation
low white blood cells

Cautions

causes severe birth defects — strict pregnancy prevention required
can cause serious drops in blood counts — regular blood tests
raised risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke
only available through a restricted access programme

Interactions

digoxin (levels rise; monitor)
erythropoietin-stimulating agents (higher clot risk)
oestrogen-containing therapies (higher clot risk)
pembrolizumab (increased deaths in myeloma trials)

Pregnancy: must never be used — causes severe birth defects
