Labetalol

Labetalol is a beta-blocker injection used to control very high blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

severe high blood pressure

Common side effects

dizziness or faintness on standing
feeling sick
scalp or skin tingling
being sick
dizziness

Cautions

rarely causes serious liver injury; stop if jaundice
avoid with asthma or obstructive airway disease
avoid in overt heart failure or heart block
stay lying down for 3 hours after the injection

Interactions

halothane anaesthetic
diabetes medicines (dose may need adjusting)
