Ketoconazole

An antifungal cream and shampoo for fungal skin infections and dandruff.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • athlete's foot and jock itch
  • dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis
  • sweat rash (intertrigo)
  • pityriasis versicolor

Common side effects

  • irritated skin
  • itching, burning or redness where applied

Cautions

  • stop if irritation worsens or spreads
  • rarely, serious allergic reactions
  • avoid getting it in your eyes or mouth

Interactions

  • very little absorbed — usually fine with most medicines
  • steroid creams (apply at different times of day)

Pregnancy: safe to use in pregnancy
