Indapamide Ph. Eur.

A diuretic (water tablet) used to manage high blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • high blood pressure

Common side effects

  • bumpy, red rash
  • headaches
  • dizziness from low blood pressure
  • feeling sick

Cautions

  • may lower potassium — regular blood tests needed
  • risk of dehydration with vomiting, diarrhoea or fever
  • may not suit diabetes, gout, kidney or liver disease

Interactions

  • NSAIDs such as ibuprofen
  • calcium supplements
  • lithium
  • tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline
  • allopurinol
  • other blood pressure or heart rhythm medicines

Pregnancy: not usually recommended in pregnancy
