Ifosfamide

A chemotherapy injection used with other medicines for testicular cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • germ cell testicular cancer (third-line, in combination)

Common side effects

  • hair loss
  • feeling or being sick
  • blood in the urine
  • low blood counts
  • infections

Cautions

  • severe bone marrow suppression can cause fatal infections
  • brain effects (encephalopathy) can be severe
  • kidney damage and bladder bleeding; mesna protects the bladder
  • can impair fertility in men and women

Interactions

  • CYP3A4 inducer medicines (more toxicity)
  • CYP3A4 inhibitor medicines (may reduce effectiveness)

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
