Clinical information

Common uses

treating postmenopausal osteoporosis
preventing postmenopausal osteoporosis

Common side effects

back pain
indigestion
diarrhoea
headache
muscle or limb pain

Cautions

can irritate the food pipe — stay upright 60 minutes
correct low blood calcium before starting
jaw bone damage (osteonecrosis) reported
report new thigh or groin pain

Interactions

calcium supplements and antacids (wait 60 minutes)
aspirin and NSAIDs (more stomach irritation)

Pregnancy: not for women who could become pregnant
