Hyoscine Butylbromide

An antispasmodic (Buscopan) that relieves stomach, bladder and period cramps.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • stomach cramps, including IBS
  • bladder cramps
  • period pain

Common side effects

  • dry mouth
  • constipation
  • blurred vision

Cautions

  • not with acute angle closure glaucoma
  • not with myasthenia gravis or a blocked bowel
  • do not drive if your vision is blurred
  • bought without prescription: no longer than 2 weeks

Interactions

  • domperidone or metoclopramide (they cancel each other out)
  • antihistamines
  • amitriptyline (antidepressant)
  • clozapine or chlorpromazine
  • amantadine (Parkinson's medicine)
  • quinidine or disopyramide (heart medicines)
