Clinical information

Common uses

  • resistant chronic myeloid leukaemia
  • head and neck cancers, alongside chemoradiation

Common side effects

  • low blood counts
  • stomach and digestive upsets
  • loss of appetite

Cautions

  • suppresses bone marrow — regular blood counts needed
  • protect skin from sun; second cancers can occur
  • avoid live vaccines
  • can harm an unborn baby

Interactions

  • antiretroviral HIV medicines (pancreatitis, liver damage, neuropathy)
  • can interfere with some laboratory tests

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
