Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate Ip

A progestin hormone injection used for uterine cancer and menstrual bleeding problems.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • advanced cancer of the womb (uterus)
  • absent periods (amenorrhoea)
  • abnormal womb bleeding from hormone imbalance

Common side effects

  • feeling or being sick
  • stomach cramps or bloating
  • breakthrough bleeding or spotting
  • breast tenderness
  • pain at the injection site

Cautions

  • not with breast or hormone-sensitive cancer
  • not with current or past blood clots
  • stop if sudden vision loss or migraine
  • can raise blood sugar in diabetes
