A progestin hormone injection used for uterine cancer and menstrual bleeding problems.

Clinical information

Common uses

advanced cancer of the womb (uterus)
absent periods (amenorrhoea)
abnormal womb bleeding from hormone imbalance

Common side effects

feeling or being sick
stomach cramps or bloating
breakthrough bleeding or spotting
breast tenderness
pain at the injection site

Cautions

not with breast or hormone-sensitive cancer
not with current or past blood clots
stop if sudden vision loss or migraine
can raise blood sugar in diabetes
