Hydroxocobalamin

An injectable form of vitamin B12 used to treat and prevent B12 deficiency anaemia.

Clinical information

Common uses

vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia, including pernicious anaemia

Common side effects

pain, swelling or itching where you had the injection
feeling or being sick
diarrhoea
headaches
dizziness or hot flushes

Cautions

tell your doctor if you have low potassium or an irregular heartbeat
can cause reactions in people allergic to cobalt
serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) is rare but possible

Interactions

usually safe with other medicines, including painkillers
contraceptive pills may lower its blood levels, without affecting treatment

Pregnancy: can be used during pregnancy
