Clinical information

Common uses

after needlestick, splash or other exposure to hepatitis B-positive blood
newborns of hepatitis B-positive mothers
sexual or household exposure to hepatitis B

Common side effects

injection-site redness and ache
headache
muscle aches and malaise
nausea

Cautions

not after previous anaphylaxis to human immune globulin
caution with IgA deficiency or bleeding disorders
made from human plasma — very small risk of transmitting infections

Interactions

live virus vaccines deferred about three months after HBIG

Pregnancy: give only if clearly indicated
