Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Vaccine

A childhood vaccine that prevents invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • prevention of Hib disease in children 2 months to 5 years (children's formulation)

Common side effects

  • fussiness or irritability
  • inconsolable crying
  • decreased activity or drowsiness
  • tenderness at the injection site

Cautions

  • not after a severe allergic reaction to a previous Hib or tetanus vaccine
  • discuss if Guillain-Barré syndrome followed a previous tetanus-containing vaccine

Pregnancy: not applicable — a vaccine for young children
