H1N1 Vaccine

An inactivated flu vaccine that protects against the 2009 pandemic H1N1 (swine flu) virus.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • immunisation against pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza, age 4 and older

Common side effects

  • injection site reactions
  • mild allergic reactions such as rash
  • flu-like symptoms

Cautions

  • not for people with severe egg allergy
  • tell your doctor if Guillain-Barré syndrome followed a previous flu vaccine
  • may work less well in people with weakened immune systems

Interactions

  • immunosuppressant medicines — may reduce the vaccine response
  • not mixed with other vaccines in the same syringe
