Griseofulvin

An antifungal tablet for ringworm infections of the skin, hair and nails.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • ringworm of the body, groin, beard or scalp
  • athlete's foot
  • fungal nail infections

Common side effects

  • skin rash or hives
  • feeling sick or vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • headache
  • tiredness or dizziness

Cautions

  • must not be used in pregnancy — risk to unborn baby
  • not for people with porphyria or liver failure
  • severe skin reactions reported — stop if a serious rash develops
  • liver injury reported — watch for jaundice

Pregnancy: avoid — must not be used in pregnancy
