A tablet that lowers blood sugar in type 2 diabetes by increasing insulin release.

Common side effects

stomach pain
diarrhoea
low blood sugar (hypos) — dizziness, nausea, hunger, tiredness

Cautions

can cause low blood sugar — keep something sugary handy
not suitable in severe kidney or liver disease, or acute porphyria
do not skip or delay meals
best to avoid alcohol — it affects blood sugar

Interactions

insulin and other diabetes medicines
weight loss medicines such as semaglutide or tirzepatide
some antibiotics, such as clarithromycin
some blood pressure or heart failure medicines

Pregnancy: not usually used — a different medicine is offered
