Gefitinib

A targeted tablet for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with specific EGFR mutations.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • first-line metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with EGFR exon 19 or 21 mutations

Common side effects

  • skin reactions such as rash
  • diarrhoea

Cautions

  • can cause serious lung inflammation — report worsening breathing
  • liver damage — regular liver tests needed
  • eye problems including keratitis
  • can harm an unborn baby

Interactions

  • strong CYP3A4 inducers (gefitinib dose increased)
  • CYP3A4 inhibitors (watch for side effects)
  • proton pump inhibitors (avoid if possible)
  • warfarin (bleeding risk — monitor INR)

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm the unborn baby
