Fosaprepitant

An intravenous anti-sickness medicine that prevents nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.

Clinical information

Common uses

prevent nausea and vomiting with highly emetogenic chemotherapy
prevent delayed nausea and vomiting with moderately emetogenic chemotherapy

Common side effects

tiredness
diarrhoea
low white blood cells
weakness
indigestion

Cautions

must never be used with pimozide
allergic reactions during or soon after the infusion
infusion site reactions — avoid small veins
hormonal contraception may fail for 28 days — use back-up

Interactions

pimozide (contraindicated)
warfarin (blood thinner) — effect falls, monitor INR
hormonal contraceptives (less effective)
ketoconazole, diltiazem and other CYP3A4 inhibitors (levels rise)
rifampin and other strong CYP3A4 inducers (works less well)
