Follitropin alfa

An injectable follicle-stimulating hormone used to treat infertility in women and men.

Clinical information

Common uses

induce ovulation in infertile women
develop multiple follicles in IVF/ART cycles
induce sperm production in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism

Common side effects

ovarian cysts
headache
abdominal or pelvic pain
nausea
acne and injection site pain (in men)

Cautions

ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome can be serious
risk of blood clots and ovarian torsion
multiple pregnancies are more likely
not with primary gonadal failure or certain hormone-dependent tumours

Pregnancy: not for use in pregnancy
