Fluorometholone

A steroid eye drop that treats inflammation of the surface and front section of the eye.

Clinical information

Common uses

steroid-responsive inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea
inflammation of the front segment of the eye

Common side effects

raised pressure in the eye
cataract formation with prolonged use
delayed wound healing
brief burning or stinging when applied

Cautions

not for viral, fungal or mycobacterial eye infections
eye pressure checks needed if used 10 days or longer
can worsen or mask eye infections, including herpes
can thin the cornea, risking perforation
