A tablet that protects the kidneys and heart in diabetes-related kidney disease and in heart failure.

Clinical information

Common uses

chronic kidney disease linked to type 2 diabetes
heart failure with ejection fraction 40% or higher

Common side effects

high potassium levels
low blood pressure
low sodium levels

Cautions

high potassium risk — regular blood potassium checks needed
not for people with adrenal insufficiency
kidney function may worsen in heart failure — monitoring needed

Interactions

strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (must not be combined)
grapefruit or grapefruit juice (avoid)
moderate or weak CYP3A4 inhibitors (monitor potassium)
strong or moderate CYP3A4 inducers (avoid)
