Filgrastim (G-Csf)

A white blood cell growth factor that cuts infection risk during chemotherapy and treats severe neutropenia.

Clinical information

Common uses

prevent infection with fever during chemotherapy
speed white cell recovery in leukaemia and bone marrow transplant
mobilise blood stem cells for collection
severe chronic neutropenia and acute radiation exposure

Common side effects

fever
pain, including bone pain
rash
cough
headache

Cautions

spleen can rupture — report left upper belly or shoulder pain
serious allergic reactions — treatment stopped permanently if they occur
can trigger sickle cell crisis in sickle cell disorders
report fever with breathing difficulty (possible ARDS)
