Fexofenadine

An antihistamine that relieves allergy symptoms such as hay fever, hives and insect bites.

Clinical information

Common uses

hay fever
hives (urticaria) and eczema
red, itchy eyes (conjunctivitis)
reactions to insect bites, stings and some food allergies

Common side effects

headaches
feeling sleepy
feeling sick
feeling dizzy

Cautions

tell your doctor about liver, kidney or heart problems
may affect allergy test results — may need stopping beforehand
do not drive if you feel sleepy or dizzy
avoid grapefruit, apple or orange juice — medicine works less well

Interactions

leflunomide (arthritis medicine)
velpatasvir (hepatitis C medicine)
teriflunomide (multiple sclerosis medicine)
apalutamide (prostate cancer medicine)
aluminium or magnesium indigestion remedies — leave 2 hours between
alcohol and other medicines that make you drowsy
