Common uses

prevention and control of bleeding episodes in haemophilia A

Common side effects

development of factor VIII inhibitors (neutralising antibodies)
dizziness and headache
fever and infusion-site inflammation

Cautions

allergic reactions including anaphylaxis can occur
made from human blood — very small risk of transmitting infections
not for von Willebrand's disease
inhibitors can make treatment less effective

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed — safety not established
