Clinical information

Common uses

insomnia — falling asleep and staying asleep

Common side effects

headache
dry mouth
indigestion or feeling sick
anxiety
confusion (higher dose)

Cautions

stop immediately after sleep-walking, sleep-driving or similar behaviours
next-morning drowsiness — care with driving
can worsen depression or suicidal thinking
withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly; lower doses for elderly

Interactions

alcohol (increases impairment)
other CNS depressant medicines (increase impairment)
