Enzalutamide

Hormone-blocking tablet or capsule used to treat prostate cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • castration-resistant prostate cancer
  • metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer
  • high-risk non-metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer

Common side effects

  • muscle and joint pain
  • tiredness
  • hot flushes
  • constipation
  • decreased appetite

Cautions

  • seizures can occur — stopped permanently if one happens
  • raises risk of heart disease events
  • raises risk of falls and fractures
  • can harm an unborn baby — partners use contraception

Interactions

  • strong CYP2C8 inhibitors (avoid or reduce dose)
  • strong CYP3A4 inducers (avoid or increase dose)
  • certain CYP3A4, CYP2C9 or CYP2C19 substrate drugs (avoid)

Pregnancy: avoid — can cause fetal harm and pregnancy loss
