Dutasteride treats enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men.

Clinical information

Common uses

symptoms of enlarged prostate (BPH)
reducing risk of urinary retention and prostate surgery
with tamsulosin for enlarged prostate

Common side effects

impotence
decreased libido
ejaculation disorders
breast tenderness or enlargement

Cautions

pregnant women must not take or even handle capsules
may increase risk of high-grade prostate cancer
halves PSA readings — tell your doctor before PSA tests
do not donate blood until 6 months after stopping

Interactions

potent long-term CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ritonavir (use caution)

Pregnancy: contraindicated — can harm a male baby's development
