Dulaglutide

Dulaglutide (Trulicity) is a weekly GLP-1 injection for type 2 diabetes.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • improving blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
  • reducing heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death risk

Common side effects

  • nausea
  • diarrhoea
  • vomiting
  • abdominal pain
  • decreased appetite

Cautions

  • boxed warning: thyroid C-cell tumours in rats; avoid with MTC or MEN 2 history
  • stop if pancreatitis is suspected
  • low blood sugar risk with insulin or sulfonylureas
  • not recommended with severe gastroparesis

Interactions

  • insulin or sulfonylureas (higher risk of low blood sugar)
  • oral medicines (absorption may slow due to delayed stomach emptying)

Pregnancy: only if the potential benefit justifies the risk
