Dulaglutide (Trulicity) is a weekly GLP-1 injection for type 2 diabetes.

Clinical information

Common uses

improving blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
reducing heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death risk

Common side effects

nausea
diarrhoea
vomiting
abdominal pain
decreased appetite

Cautions

boxed warning: thyroid C-cell tumours in rats; avoid with MTC or MEN 2 history
stop if pancreatitis is suspected
low blood sugar risk with insulin or sulfonylureas
not recommended with severe gastroparesis

Interactions

insulin or sulfonylureas (higher risk of low blood sugar)
oral medicines (absorption may slow due to delayed stomach emptying)

Pregnancy: only if the potential benefit justifies the risk
