Dicloxacillin Sodium

Penicillin antibiotic capsule for resistant staphylococcal infections.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci

Cautions

  • serious, occasionally fatal allergic reactions — not if penicillin-allergic
  • C. difficile diarrhoea can occur, even two months after treatment
  • people allergic to cephalosporins may also react

Interactions

  • tetracycline antibiotics — may work against penicillin, avoid
  • probenecid — raises penicillin levels
  • warfarin or dicumarol (blood thinners) — effect may be reduced
  • aminoglycoside antibiotics — inactivated if mixed together

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed — no evidence of harm
