Diatrazoate Meglumine+ Diatrazaoate Sodium

An iodine-based X-ray contrast liquid (Gastrografin) swallowed or given rectally to image the gut.

Clinical information

Common uses

X-ray examination of the gastrointestinal tract
bowel contrast for CT scans of the body

Common side effects

nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea (usually mild and short-lived)

Cautions

can cause fluid loss and low blood pressure — must be diluted for
serious allergic reactions possible, especially with iodine sensitivity or asthma
dangerous if breathed into the lungs

Pregnancy: use only when clearly needed; X-ray exposure carries fetal risk
