Clinical information

Common uses

Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Common side effects

round (Cushingoid) face appearance
weight gain
increased appetite
cough and colds
excess hair growth

Cautions

weakens the immune system — infections can be severe and masked
can cause hormone problems, high blood sugar and mood changes
long-term use can thin bones and cause eye problems
no live vaccines while on high doses

Interactions

moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors — dose must be reduced
CYP3A4 inducers — avoid, may reduce effect
