Dasatinib

Kinase inhibitor tablet for certain leukaemias (Ph+ CML and Ph+ ALL).

Clinical information

Common uses

  • Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia
  • Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukaemia after prior therapy
  • children 1 year and older with Ph+ CML

Common side effects

  • diarrhoea
  • headache
  • skin rash
  • tiredness
  • feeling sick

Cautions

  • severe drops in blood counts and bleeding — regular blood tests
  • fluid retention, including around the lungs
  • may increase pulmonary arterial hypertension risk
  • can harm an unborn baby — use effective contraception

Interactions

  • strong CYP3A4 inhibitors — dose reduction may be needed
  • strong CYP3A4 inducers — dose increase may be needed
  • antacids — avoid taking at the same time
  • stomach-acid reducers (H2 blockers, proton pump inhibitors) — avoid
  • blood thinners or drugs affecting platelets — bleeding caution

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
