Common side effects

thrush (fungal infections)
back pain
peeing more than usual
low blood sugar (dizziness, faintness)

Cautions

dehydration risk if vomiting, diarrhoea or fever
do not stop suddenly — blood sugar may rise
rare diabetic ketoacidosis and severe urine infections
not for type 1 diabetes

Interactions

furosemide and other fluid-removing medicines
some other diabetes medicines, such as gliclazide
blood-pressure-lowering medicines
lithium
