Clinical information

Common uses

chronic spasticity

Common side effects

drowsiness
dizziness
weakness
general tiredness (malaise, fatigue)
diarrhoea, which may be severe

Cautions

can cause fatal liver damage — liver tests needed
not with active liver disease (hepatitis, cirrhosis)
extra care in women and people over 35
stop if hepatitis symptoms or jaundice appear

Interactions

sedatives and tranquillisers (more drowsiness)
oestrogen therapy (possible liver toxicity)
calcium channel blockers like verapamil — avoid in malignant hyperthermia
vecuronium (stronger muscle block)

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
