A chemotherapy injection for metastatic melanoma and Hodgkin's disease.

Clinical information

Common uses

metastatic malignant melanoma
Hodgkin's disease (second-line, in combination)

Common side effects

loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting (over 90%)
flu-like symptoms: fever, aches, malaise
hair loss
facial flushing and tingling

Cautions

bone marrow suppression — blood counts must be monitored
liver damage (hepatic necrosis) has caused deaths
anaphylaxis can occur

Pregnancy: only if benefit justifies risk — caused birth defects in animals
