preventing organ transplant rejection
rheumatoid arthritis
psoriasis

Common side effects

high blood pressure
kidney problems

Cautions

raises infection risk and risk of lymphoma and skin cancers
kidney function must be monitored during treatment
Neoral and Sandimmune brands are not interchangeable
blood level monitoring needed

Interactions

many drugs raise or lower ciclosporin levels (CYP3A4)
grapefruit and grapefruit juice — avoid
St John's wort — can cause transplant rejection
statins — muscle damage risk, reduce statin dose
NSAIDs and other kidney-harming drugs
potassium-sparing diuretics — avoid (high potassium)

Pregnancy: no clear birth-defect risk; prematurity and low birth weight increased
