Cyclophosphamide

A chemotherapy medicine for cancers such as lymphoma, leukaemia and breast cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • malignant lymphomas and leukaemias
  • multiple myeloma
  • breast and ovarian cancer
  • neuroblastoma and retinoblastoma

Common side effects

  • low white blood cells, sometimes with fever
  • fever
  • hair loss
  • nausea and vomiting
  • diarrhoea

Cautions

  • suppresses bone marrow — serious, sometimes fatal infections
  • bladder bleeding (haemorrhagic cystitis) can be fatal
  • heart and lung toxicity reported
  • can harm an unborn baby — use contraception

Pregnancy: avoid — can cause birth defects and miscarriage
