Cyclophosphamide

A chemotherapy medicine for cancers such as lymphoma, leukaemia and breast cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

malignant lymphomas and leukaemias
multiple myeloma
breast and ovarian cancer
neuroblastoma and retinoblastoma

Common side effects

low white blood cells, sometimes with fever
fever
hair loss
nausea and vomiting
diarrhoea

Cautions

suppresses bone marrow — serious, sometimes fatal infections
bladder bleeding (haemorrhagic cystitis) can be fatal
heart and lung toxicity reported
can harm an unborn baby — use contraception

Pregnancy: avoid — can cause birth defects and miscarriage
