Clinical information
Common uses
- muscle spasm with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions (2-3 weeks only)
Common side effects
- drowsiness
- dry mouth
- dizziness
- tiredness
- headache
Cautions
- never with, or within 14 days of, MAO inhibitors
- serotonin syndrome risk with some antidepressants and tramadol
- not after recent heart attack or with rhythm problems
- not with an overactive thyroid
Interactions
- MAO inhibitors (life-threatening — contraindicated)
- SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, tramadol, bupropion (serotonin syndrome)
- alcohol, barbiturates and other sedatives (stronger effect)
- guanethidine-type blood pressure medicines (blocked effect)
- tramadol (higher seizure risk)
Pregnancy: no harm seen in animal studies — use only if needed
