Clobazam

A benzodiazepine used with other medicines for Lennox-Gastaut syndrome seizures.

Clinical information

Common uses

add-on treatment of Lennox-Gastaut seizures (age 2+)

Common side effects

constipation
sleepiness or sedation
fever
lethargy
drooling

Cautions

with opioids can cause dangerous breathing problems (boxed warning)
risk of abuse, addiction and overdose
do not stop suddenly — withdrawal can be life-threatening
stop at first sign of serious rash

Interactions

opioids (profound sedation, breathing risk)
alcohol (raises clobazam levels about 50%)
drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 (may need lower doses)
strong or moderate CYP2C19 inhibitors (dose adjustment)

Pregnancy: may harm the baby — newborns can have sedation or withdrawal
