Clinical information

Common uses

  • advanced testicular cancer
  • advanced ovarian cancer
  • advanced bladder cancer

Common side effects

  • kidney damage
  • nerve damage (numbness, tingling)
  • severe nausea and vomiting
  • low blood counts
  • hearing loss or ringing in the ears

Cautions

  • severe kidney toxicity — hydration and monitoring essential (boxed warning)
  • severe nausea and vomiting — anti-sickness premedication needed (boxed warning)
  • severe bone marrow suppression, with fatal infections (boxed warning)
  • hearing damage is cumulative, especially in children

Interactions

  • other kidney-damaging medicines
  • other hearing-damaging medicines

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
