Cinnarizine

An antihistamine for travel sickness, vertigo and Ménière's disease.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • travel sickness and seasickness
  • vertigo and nausea in Ménière's disease

Common side effects

  • feeling very sleepy
  • heartburn, bloating and feeling sick
  • weight gain

Cautions

  • do not drive if drowsy
  • check first if you have glaucoma, epilepsy or Parkinson's disease
  • not usually used when breastfeeding
  • best not to drink alcohol with it

Interactions

  • strong painkillers such as tramadol
  • amitriptyline (migraine and nerve pain)
  • sleeping pills such as zopiclone
  • anxiety medicines such as diazepam
