Cilostazol

A tablet that improves walking distance in people with leg circulation pain.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • intermittent claudication (leg pain from poor circulation)

Common side effects

  • headache
  • diarrhoea or abnormal stools
  • palpitations

Cautions

  • do not use with heart failure of any severity (boxed warning)
  • fast heartbeat or low blood pressure — caution with heart disease
  • blood cell counts can fall — periodic monitoring
  • avoid with bleeding disorders or active bleeding

Interactions

  • strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors (reduce cilostazol dose)
  • CYP2C19 inhibitors (reduce cilostazol dose)

Pregnancy: harm seen in animal studies — only if prescribed
