Clinical information

Common uses

preventing kidney, liver and heart transplant rejection
psoriasis
rheumatoid arthritis

Cautions

can cause high blood pressure and kidney damage — monitoring needed
raises infection risk and risk of lymphoma and skin cancer
specialist supervision required
brands are not interchangeable without physician supervision

Interactions

gentamicin, vancomycin, amphotericin B (kidney strain)
NSAIDs such as naproxen and diclofenac (kidney strain)
ketoconazole, cimetidine (alter ciclosporin levels)
tacrolimus, methotrexate, colchicine
fibrates (bezafibrate, fenofibrate)
metabolised by CYP3A4 — many other medicines interact
