Choriogonadotropin Alpha

A hormone (hCG) injection used in fertility treatment and certain male conditions.

Clinical information

Common uses

triggering ovulation in fertility treatment
undescended testicles in boys (cryptorchidism)
male hypogonadism from pituitary deficiency

Common side effects

injection site pain, bruising, redness or swelling
headache
irritability, restlessness or low mood
tiredness or fluid retention

Cautions

not effective for weight loss (label warning)
ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome can be serious, even life-threatening
blood clots reported with gonadotropin treatment
multiple pregnancies are more likely
