Clinical information

Common uses

preventing cholera (Vibrio cholerae O1) when travelling to affected areas

Common side effects

tiredness
headache
stomach pain
nausea or vomiting
loss of appetite

Cautions

not after a severe allergic reaction to any cholera vaccine
safety not established in people with weak immune systems
vaccine strain sheds in stool — caution near immunocompromised contacts

Interactions

antibiotics in the last 14 days can inactivate the vaccine
chloroquine — take the vaccine at least 10 days before

Pregnancy: not absorbed into the body — fetal exposure not expected
