Cetuximab

An antibody infusion (EGFR blocker) for head and neck and bowel cancers.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • squamous cell cancer of the head and neck
  • K-Ras wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer
  • BRAF V600E metastatic colorectal cancer (with encorafenib)

Common side effects

  • acne-like rash, itching and nail changes
  • headache
  • diarrhoea
  • infection
  • tiredness and nausea (with encorafenib)

Cautions

  • serious, sometimes fatal infusion reactions (boxed warning)
  • cardiopulmonary arrest reported — electrolytes monitored (boxed warning)
  • lung toxicity possible; limit sun exposure
  • can harm an unborn baby — use effective contraception
