Cefpodoxime

An oral cephalosporin antibiotic for mild to moderate bacterial infections.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • ear infections, sinusitis, sore throat
  • pneumonia and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis
  • gonorrhoea
  • skin and urinary tract infections

Cautions

  • not for people allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics
  • penicillin allergy: up to 1 in 10 may also react
  • diarrhoea can signal C. difficile colitis
