Common uses

bacterial infections (given by injection)

Cautions

tell your doctor about cephalosporin or penicillin allergy
rapid injection into a central line can cause dangerous heart rhythms
antibiotic-associated C. difficile diarrhoea can occur

Interactions

probenecid (raises cefotaxime levels — high doses avoided)
aminoglycosides, NSAIDs, furosemide (added kidney strain)

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
